Step back in time and enjoy the elegance and sophistication of a beautiful bygone era….
Some have called it “the best kept secret in Joburg”. Others have called it home away from home…and this was exactly the essence of what we had in mind when we opened The Silver Teaspoon in January 2015.
The concept seed was sown over 7 years ago with the creation of South Africa’s first vintage décor hiring company, A Vintage Affair. A Vintage Affair (www.avintageaffair.co.za) reintroduced vintage fine bone china, silverware, linen and décor and made it affordably available for society to enjoy the elegance of a bygone era …..all over again.
Since 2011, we have elegantly decorated the tables of South African homes and venues with beautiful vintage décor and have been a part of happy celebrations such as weddings, baby showers, kitchen teas, anniversaries, graduations, corporate events and christenings.
Passion and a love of all-things-vintage lead us to create and open our own Victorian tea garden where we were then able to make every affair a spectacular Vintage Affair. We found the perfect venue in the leafy suburb of Northcliff, Johannesburg. Soon the house was converted, the gardens were established and patrons from all over Gauteng began to gather for High Tea’s and cuppa’s with a friend.
The Atmosphere
“Perhaps it is while drinking tea that I most of all enjoy the sense of leisure.”
~George Gissing, The Private Papers of Henry Ryecroft, 1903.
Both Nicky & Paula, the founders and owners, have a heart for community and an eye for beauty. A strong inspiration for them in creating the Silver Teaspoon was their love of people, of fellowship, friendship and genuine connectivity… Something which is often lost in the business of city life. The beautiful garden setting facilitates tranquility and happiness and nature.
